Pocket Informant 9 almost here...

PI 9 has been finished since September 10th. So why the long wait? Typically we start on the final stuff about 2-3 weeks before release where we do localizations, icons, docs, all the installer stuff, etc. This time because our drop dead date of Sep 10 was there for CAB only Marketplace a lot of this stuff wasn't necessary so we started it after we were done.

We are now nearly done. Localizations and docs are the two things not done, but we will be SOFT-launching PI 9 with what localization we DO have and docs next week (it would be end of week but I'm going on vacation!).

What is a SOFT launch? That's where we provide you with PI 9 before we're 100% ready with the ancillary stuff. The code is finished, but all that stuff around it isn't. I was going to do that this past weekend, but I've got 50 things all on my plate and that slipped. I then decided I wanted to get some of the stuff that's been sitting in FTF for a bit as a finished release before we get to PI just so that its not sitting around. I still have FlexMail 4.11 to publish before I get PI 9 out there.

For the soft-launch of PI 9 we won't be updating the website. We'll put the files up (including unfinished localizations) and point to them from our Twitter account. You'll have to run in trial mode until we do the official launch which will be September 28th.

So the soft launch is going well. We got some feedback in regards to some visual changes to the View Picker so we'll be changing that before launch. It does mean a build rev, but is one reason we did a soft launch - to get feedback on simple things we can change.

I didn't like the new view picker at first, but I have found that it does make the views more visible, and easier identify. Anyway, great stuff, especially with the tasks. I was surprised by the logo (though it was not unfamiliar to me) ;)
