Pocket Informant for BlackBerry 2.1

Here is Pocket Informant for BlackBerry Public Beta 2.1. We'd really like to get thousands of people trying this out so we can really get a good once-over on the testing. We've been testing this heavily for a long time now and are finally ready to show it.

Here are some of the new improvements:

Toodledo sync for tasks

Multi-select for tasks in Task View, Today View and Search View

New grouping modes for Tasks (by projects, by context, by GTD Action)

Contact grouping by category

New UI for categories and attendees editing/viewing

Flexible task sorting customization (sort by any field in any sequence)

Recurring events speed optimization

Optional pushable task checkboxes

Strikethrough text used for completed tasks

Grab 2.1 here and make sure to keep all conversation, reports, bugs, and comments on 2.1 here. Please don't email support on anything with 2.1 because they only support released products and it just takes longer to get to us. This is where its at.

PIBB 2.0 Release Candidate

This is the release candidate. However the only way to ensure that we have caught all the major issues is by you testing it as if it was a full fledged release. That said, the other reason we're posting this is that Yuriy is taking a 2 week vacation that's been planned for many many months and we'd rather not release without a way to get some engineering backup (I understand Java, but am not proficient with it). As such for the next 2 weeks we will not be able to provide much feedback.

Pocket Informant 8.52 not final RC, but close

So we've taken a very long tack on 8.52 because we've been fixing things as we get reports and we kept getting some new reports here and there both on this list and during our PI9 work that we kept finding new things here and there.

So here is what we hope is close to the final PI 8.52. I'd like to release this soon, but we have a couple more bugs to fix reported on these forums before we do.

- Pocket Informant for Windows Mobile - ABC in Contacts too big on Touch Pro 2 fixed
- Only one contact is visible after rotating screen in Contact View fixed
- Copying links to contacts on event duplication fixed (#30013)

And I think it has a few other minor fixes.

This is our public Pocket Informant 8.52 FTF. We believe it should fix and improve bugs in PI 8.51. Most of these bug fixes come from our development of PI 9, but they focus on crashes in Contacts, Tasks, and a myriad of other small things.

We have not fixed every reported crash yet, but we are releasing this to get feedback on what we have been able to do. If you continue to have a crash bug, we want to work with you closely over the next few weeks to do that.

Pocket Informant 8.51 Release Candidate 3

I expect to release this next week (if all goes OK). One of the improvements in 8.51 is support of some Euro-centric T12 searches. This means chars like é, å, ç, á, ê, etc.. should now be searched. Second, we've added back the Calendar Filters of Anniversary, Birthday, and others in the Customize View dialog. This was in Pre 8.0 versions of PI. Finally, we've fixed a few big bugs that we were fighting for months and finally found specifically in the Tasks View.

This specific build has the following changes:
- Fixed a crash in Tasks View Touch
- Fixed a crash in Contacts Summary Dlg

Pocket Informant For Blackberry 1.02

This is our first release candidate. We have many many major performance improvements, feature improvements, and sync improvements. There are still some performance issues in sync, but those are due to the design of the BB PIM API and at this time are not something we can work around.

Also if you have issues with some data not being synched, you may need to clear the BB Calendar database and resync everything there. We found that PIBB was synching some yearly events back to the BlackBerry with extra information that the BB API does not like so it is essential to clear BB Calendar before using the new build.

in reverse order of implementation - i.e. bottom is what was implemented first
- Yearly events sync to BB Calendar fixed (possible fix to problem with indexing old events)
- Indexing events for local sync older than 1970 fixed
- Number of items (Contacts/Events/Tasks) added to About dialog
- BB records deletion disabled in startup sync
- Preserving current selection on items deletion/modification/creation in AV implemented
- Invalid times when syncing alarms fixed
- New event date when selecting "New" command in AV with event selected corrected
- New task's default date from AV view fixed (now used the selected day instead of the first AV day)
- Alarm gets cleared in PI on syncing task changes fixed
- Duplicated items (create item in PI, sync to BB, modify in BB, item duplicated in PI) fixed
- Syncing individual changes from BB to PI optimized (several updates merged into one)
- "Mark Completed" option added to task alarms
- BB PIM changes do not sync to PI when PI is opened
- Relative alarms support added (for sync with local PIM)
- Overdue and undated task display logic changed for AV to show them in "Today" date
- Synchronizing individual PIM changes during full sync fixed
- Notification on failure to access PIM event records added
- Number and size of timeframes for accessing PIM event records increased
- Alarms do not get updated when recurring event changes are synced to PI fixed

Previous Builds
- 4.2 build fixed to run on BB Storm
- Contacts database backup (failed on contacts with pictures) fixed
- Modifying note field on recurring task completion disabled when item is not synced with local PIM
- Searching BB PIM items when syncing individual changes from BB PIM fixed
- Completing task using SPACE button in grouped by category task view fixed
- Grouped by status task view gets skipped when switching with 'V' shortcut fixed
- Task list does not get refreshed when completing task with space bar fixed
- Next month shortcuts in MV do not work if next month's first day is selected fixed
- Marking recurring task as completed by changing it status in edit dialog does not generate a new task fixed
- Trial mode changed to 14-day time trial
- Pre-release application size optimization (debug, unreferenced and outdated code removed)
- Contact database memory usage optimization
- New indexing logic for events and tasks added (events are now added in 10 queries, one per-month and tasks are now queried by categories)
- Recurring events missing if exception falls on the same day as recurring events cache calculation start day fixed
- Recurring events cache clearing on startup removed (instead manual cache clearing option added to Options->Application)
- Dates sync problems around daylight saving time change fixed
- Launch startup sync on background option fixed (was always checked and changes did not save)
- Exception on saving tasks to device on sync and backup fixed
- All tasks are shown as recurrent after sync fixed
- Pearl Flip support added
- Tasks duplication fixed (when creating tasks in PI with full sync to BB PIM on)
- Event sync index preparation changed (split into two requests: for past and for future events)

Previous build
- Exception handling in index preparation improved, events index generation logic changed
- Email field sync logic changed to avoid record deletion
- Journal database backup fixed
- Emails sync algorithm changed (to fix deleting emails on changing issue)
- Navigation in MV strip mode changed to allow navigating down to the list of events (when "load next/prev on select" option is unchecked)
- Opening day in DV when pushing action button with day header selected in AV implemented
- Internal: Extra event lock removed on sync progress dialog
- Save confirmation always shown on closing event editing (even if nothing was changed) fixed
- Recurring events duplication on moving fixed
- Entering characters at the first position of postal code fixed
- "One week" month view mode implemented
- Internal: Additional logging added to emails sync
- Alarm sounds management rewritten (now it is configured from standard system's profile editing)
- Per-table version control implemented (PI does not delete categories on any new upgrade anymore)
- Contact/event/task sync optimization (the last stage, deleting items in PIM is launched only if there are cached deletions in PI database)
- Optional timebars implemented in month view
- Task alarm date is now set by default to the start date (if no start date then end date), time is set to work day start configured for this day
- Database structure optimized to store and manage data more efficiently
- Menu button processing fixed for BB Storm
- Data restore from backup fixed

http://download.pocketinformant.com/FTF/PIBB

A note about bug reports:
We've found that most issues go back to the sync and are actually RIM issues that are impossible for us to fix or work around at this time and are due to bugs or design failures in the RIM PIM APIs that we sync with. We've had a very length discussion with RIM on these and they acknowledge its their API's fault, though don't seem to think anything is wrong with that. I say this because when you report an issue with PIBB - please separate the sync from the app in your report meaning that if its a bug in the sync - make sure to focus on that. As we bring in our Outlook Desktop Sync soon which we believe resolves all of these issues it will be important to separate sync from the app itself. It is with great disappointment that our #1 issue past performance are these bugs in the RIM API that cause things like the entire device to freeze or crash.

Ewallet For Blackberry Open Beta

eWallet for BlackBerry is finally here! It isn’t available for purchase yet, but we’re very excited to announce that you can download a Beta version of the software today! This version is a full featured version and will synchronize with eWallet 6.1.3 for Windows PC (available for download here.)

Although this is a Beta version of the application, it is extremely solid and works great. It IS a Beta though, so all the usual warnings and disclaimers apply (for instance, be sure to make a good backup of your wallet files before you start using it, use at your own risk, etc.) Again, it is extremely solid but officially it is a Beta.

In addition, while this is “full featured” this Beta version will only function for a limited time. At the end of that time you’ll need to get the full version if you wish to continue using the application.

OK, enough talk and more downloads! Here are the links you can use to download the Beta version. Both are for an EXE that you run on your desktop computer that will let you install the application to your BlackBerry. Note that I’ve included a zipped download as well because some folks’ security won’t let them download ANY EXE files.

http://www.iliumsoft.com/beta/eWallet_BlackBerry_Setup.exe

Next up, if you decide to try this out we encourage you to give us feedback! Let us know what you like, what you don’t like, and if you run into any problems! WebIS is hosting a forum to facilitate this. You can find the forum here:

Flexmail 2007 Rev 2 Public Beta

We have a public beta candidate running right now. We still have some minor known issues (mainly things like a focus lost on SP in a dialog after Finding messages) but that is why this is a public beta and not a release. I am personally a bit nervous because you guys tend to really beat the software up and we're a bit worn down from the last week of impossible bug hunting, but at the same time I think it will be a good excercise.

Now this public beta will be handled differently because I am the front-man for this forum. I simply cannot answer and tag 500 messages in a couple days. Something will get overlooked and someone will get mad. As such this public beta we are going to open our internal private bug tracking system to the public in a way. I have created a separate project in our bug tracking system called "PUBLIC BETA FlexMail" I have named it that so its not mistaken somehow for the private FlexMail project. You will be able to log into our system and sign up for an account which will automatically give you access to the public beta flexmail project. Here are some things I ask for bug reporting through our system called Mantis:

We ask that if you have a open and shut bug - which is a bug that is clearly reproducible - create a ticket in Mantis. Do not bother with a post here. Please.

If the problem is related to the message downloading/uploading and any other server communication issue please be sure you have a log attached. And also please have "Log All Activity" checkbox on before creating the log.

Please do not create one ticket for several different issues. It makes tickets tracking slower and less reliable. So if you notice several bugs in the new beta, please post them in several tickets.

Not only do logs help, but screenshots are invaluable for any UI issues.

Some bugs occur only with very specific ways of invoking a command. Please note exactly how you got to the bug. For example via context menu by tap/hold, context menu by action/hold, soft key menu, classic menu bar, or something else. This can be critical to us fixing the bug. Its not often, but I cannot count how many times a bug could not be reproduced because we were tapping on the screen or using it in one handed mode while the bug-reporter was doing the opposite.

We don't need to know if the bug occurred in previous releases. The code is so different it really doesn't matter.

Fill out as much as you can in the bug reporting form. Don't bother so much with the "priority" or bug severity - we don't look at those anyway.

Once a bug is triaged (i.e. read, checked, maybe reproduced) we will move it to our private system. I do not know yet if that means you will be notified if its fixed on the next release or not. The system is not really built for that sort of thing, but it may actually work. I simply do not know.

If a bug is marked as fixed, that does not mean you can download a fixed copy. It just means we believe it to be fixed in our source at that time and the next time we announce a build, the fix should be in there. We will need you to verify that it is fixed for you and if not, we will reopen the ticket.

Not every bug will be fixed. We prioritize bugs into crashes, reliability, logic issues (things that don't work the way they should), and UI issues. We believe all these are important, but some are blocking issues and some are not.

You will only see your tickets, not anyone elses. This means your setting, screenshots, and logs also cannot be seen by others.

Our goal here is to make this system efficient, professional (i.e. not all over the place), and make it work for both sides.

So again, I am not announcing the beta right now; I am simply preparing you for how we will perform it. Feel free to post actual QUESTIONS on this list, but I really really will not want bug reports here as if you post a bug report here there is a very very good chance I will miss it amongst all the other posts. I cannot stress that enough.

This is the first public beta of FlexWallet Rev 5. We thought Rev 4 was the last, but we had a few Vista-related fixes to make and make some other minor changes for our upcoming BlackBerry client. So here is Rev 5 with all previous fixes and the Vista fixes.

Voiceminder 1.6 Ftf

We have a VoiceMinder 1.6 FTF up here:

http://download.pocketinformant.com/FTF/VM/

The main changes are UI fixes and a couple MAPI logs for the following issues that have been reported:

1) A user would import a FlexMail setup or enter the data themselves and some of the settings were contrary or missing. VoiceMinder would allow this and then just complain on connection. VoiceMinder now checks for proper data in the settings UI. Specifically "on enabling “Authentication required” bring in Username/password dialog and do not enable authentication until user enters login information."

2) We have had some reports of "Save to ActiveSync" sending mail with no voice attachment. This may be fixed now as it was a folder/path issue if VM was installed on a storage card (I think) and we've also added some MAPI logging when logging is on.

This is a maintenance release purely to take care of these two issues. We would like to make sure this works well for you and also to get any feedback on improvements to the UI and usage. No feature requests please - we've got a ton

Pocket Informant 2007 Rev 2 - **final** Re-release2

It is never a joy for me to release something and find I missed a bug or 5. In this case after released PI 2007 Rev 2 we found two major bugs that could cause crashes in PI 2007 and I felt it was important enough to fix and re-release. I did so quickly, but in the process found the lesser of the two crashing bugs still wasn't fully fixed. So I spent the last 3 days fixing that bug plus since we found about: PI's timer for checking for day changes had somehow gotten disabled, Clear all in notes did not set the background menu, german cell titles were off, custom view folder list was broken when saving custom views, and MyText was disabled in the Daily notes.

Since all of these were simple minor fixes I decided to put them into this re-release and also have a quick public test. So far so good. on the first set. I have learned that even simple fixes sometimes cause big problems, but usually those problems show up quickly so I'm comfortable if this build does not exhibit any new major issues that we will release this tonight as Build 730 Final Rev 2 re-release.

Now let me explain that software is never bug free. I don't expect that PI is 100% bug free. But I do expect it to be reliable, not crash, and work in every way we describe it should in most cases. I'm sure there is something that someone will find "unacceptable" but unless its a crash, data loss, or something that impairs the software use for everyone we will release Rev 2 as is which I think is the best PI release ever.

So here it is - I'm not uploading the languages except English simply because I don't have the bandwidth to do it this very moment.

Franklin Covey Sync, Build 42

We have a final release of PI 2007 internally. Its the same as the previous public release with one bug fix on the date bar so I won't upload it just for that as we'll be releasing a full release by tonight or tomorrow.

I have uploaded the final release of PI 2007 with a slightly updated build of the Franklin Covey sync just now:

http://download.pocketinformant.com/7/FCSy...mantFCSetup.exe

I'd like Franklin Covey testers exclusively to use this build and ONLY give me sync related comments. I mainly need this rule in place so we can concentrate on that. Even though FC 4.0 went final with our sync already (not sure if it was this build here or the previous build) I know that the complexity of the sync means that we may need to continue improving the sync going forward.

So here is the latest sync and I'd like to get feedback on it. The sync will also automatically enable a log in %TEMP% that if you have any issues we'd like to see zipped and uploaded.

Pocket Informant 2007 Release Candidate Build 671

This is the release candidate. At this moment, I expect this to be a release build for English. I expect to have some localizations by tomorrow. I am very happy with this build and feel good about it.

As usual release builds are not 100% bug free. They are not even just good enough, but must be great enough. What that means is that the only reason I won't fix a known bug is because it makes more sense to do it in the next development phase for specific reasons. In this case I actually am aware of two very small visual bugs that are so minor, yet require some risk to fix that I'm pushing them into Rev 2.

There are only really two things in this build I am not 100% sure of due to it working perfectly for me and testers: My Text editing and Dell Axim drawing. For My Text I worked pretty hard on this and it all works for me - but I will warn that some previous builds did corrupt those so if you're seeing weird issues you may want to remove the MyText.bin file and start fresh. One user sent me their MyText file and it was totally corrupt. On the Dell Axim drawing issue I've set it up so that if PI sees its running on an Axim we simply use the old background filling code.

So there it is: Release Candidate:

Flexmail 2007 Build 746

This is an early release and a look at the technology we've put in for FM 2007 so far. Many things have not yet been done, but much has been. There are still bugs, SMS integration issues (we're redoing large parts of that), and unfinished features. Also there is no converter for old settings/data to the new settings/data. This is a work in progress and I cannot stress that enough. We do not want bug reports at this juncture. We will not provide support. The only purpose of this alpha is let you see where we are at with the storage engine changes internally.

Before installation - UNINSTALL FM 2006 first. Delete its folder. Its data folder. Everything.

Flexwallet 2006 Rev 3 Beta Build 450

Please note - I had to pull the last one as I incorrectly uploaded the wrong release.

----
This is a beta. Its not a final release. That said, it has many new bug fixes, including some final ones people have been asking for. Its got a newer version of the Sync app which improves things greatly on the UI side, and is unfinished. Meaning that we're not yet done with with what we want to do.

One major feature is that the desktop installer now allows the app to run on a USB key. We've ONLY tested this on Windows XP, but I would hope it would work too on 2000/98/ME.

This build was literally just made tonight so its not gotten a lot of testing, though I've been using in-progress builds on my own wallet since Rev 2 was released.

I know one of the biggest questions will be - how to install on a USB key? Simple - just point the installer to it It should work. Again, I only tested on a clean Virtual PC Windows XP install as my other PCs around here already have the necessary libs. Mikhail also tested this on his own PCs, but in his case he did it manually.

So please grab this build - and let us know how things work for you.
The only change from the release PI 2005 Rev 5 here are:

1) Improved German localization
2) Improved Brazilian Localization
3) Fixed the Work Hour bar bug in TLV/MV. This is confirmed from the previous build. (Look here for more info )
4) Uncommented out the WM5 Today screen Calendar Key override and made a small change I believe will make the soft key work properly now. You may have to uncheck "Make Default PIM" and recheck it for the change to take effect. You may also have to soft reset after you make the change and exit PI.

This is the final RC. I have not uploaded it to the final release part of our site only because I'm waiting for the localizations for Korean/Japanese still from our localizer, but the code I believe here is final. I did fix 2 extra bugs posted both in support and here and for that reason plus the wait for KOR/JPN I am posting it here for a final release candidate.

THe two extra bugs were:

1) Fixed an issue in DV with the multi-days feature where some daily recurring appts would not properly display
2) Fixed an issue where our CeFile::Exists() function in WM5 did not act like it did on WM2003 due to a Windows Mobile API change on WM5.

I have also turned off the Define colors button in the color picker and finalized our installers. As such I am forcing all downloads to be only of the EXE installer.
We've got most of our localizations done except Italian, CHT/CHS, Korean, Japanese, and Russian. We plan to drop CHS/CHT for Rev 5 for the moment due to lack of people to find to properly QA the localizations.
