Calendar-only version?

I realise this question is counter to the whole idea of a PIM, but I've feel that Pocket Informant may have lost its way a bit. I don't task the way I used to (and I find I'm getting lots more done because I'm not spending all my time sorting, and prioritising, and re-arranging, and tracking, and monitoring tasks. Notes is nice, but notes through iCloud is much better because I can get the notes on my iPhone onto my iPad (and vice versa). Contacts is contacts, and it's no better with PI4iP than it is with the onboard app, so I don't use it.

The calendar in PI4iP is really the best part of the app, and despite it's short-comings when interacting with the iOS calendars I do like the look of it and how it works (for the most part). I find all the rest of the "features" of the app are now just so much noise in the background - if I could turn them off with switches, that would be great. Having a calendar-only version of the app might be another idea.

The problem with the app at this point is that it was initially developed to get around short-comings of the platform and the OS, but now a lot of those issues have been addressed by Apple. Those features/functions/work-arounds have become residual and redundant, and in some cases I think they may be hindering further development of the app (Exchange and WDS being two that leap to mind, if only because people still complain about this functionality, or lack thereof, the most). I wouldn't go so far as saying that the app needs to be re-started, but I would say that a step-back and re-assessment of what the platform can/can't do might be required at this point. After that, a re-assessment of the app and how it can best leverage the platform's capabilities.

PI4iP's calendar is still the best looking calendar out there, in my opinion. I've said this from day one, and I still think it's true to this day. Very clean, very well laid out. I most especially like the implementation of the week view - only dev that's done it right, in my mind.

I was wondering if there was any others out there who thought a calendar-only version of this app might be desirable?

Can I sync iOS event calendar with Google?

As per the title, is it possible to sync an iOS Events ONLYcalendar with Google?

I have PI (latest version) and I simply use it with iOS events so that I can easily sync with iCloud and this works perfectly.

I want to know if it is possible to sync this iOS Calendar within PI with Google by setting up a Google Sync Service.

I have added the Google Sync Service, have signed in and retrieved the calendars to Sync. I tick the iOS event calendar (from PI) and untick everything else.

I then choose sync and I am told that iOS Events are currently enabled, and do I wish to disable them if I am syncing from the same source (I am not) so I choose Leave iOS Events On

When I choose Sync, all I see flash up is Fetching Calendars, and then Fetching Calendar Events this happens in less than a second so it looks like it is not doing anything. If I log in to Google Mail on my PC and check calendars, I can see the Calendar has been created but no events have been synced.

Any ideas? Is this even possible?

Many thanks in advance.

Existing Calendar Synced with Google

I am sure this has been answered before, but I did a few searches and didn't see anything explaining it. I have been using PI for iPhone for about a year without syncing the calendar with anything. I recently purchased an iPad was a little disappointed when I found that there was no good way to keep my iPhone and iPad in sync. So I guess the best solution is to use Google cal to get them to sync up with each other.

So here is my problem. I would like to the the last years worth of calendar data synced up with Google. I set everything up, and if I add something in Google, it appears on my phone but none of the items that are on my phone are syncing up with Google. Any help to get that setup would be appreciated.

Apple hints via a beta iCloud... that notes and reminders would be available on the iCloud.

We have talked about syncing PI data with several sources. I would think, in the interest of syncing many variaties of data to PI. This would have to help considering they would have to publish an API for Reminders .. aka Tasks ... right?

Just wanted to share it for those who had not seen it. I realize it is just beta talk now though.
Perhaps you love working out of the calendar day view, but dealing with 1 day at a time just isn't enough. Did you know you can "squeeze" in more columns? By using the standard iOS "pinch & spread" gesture, you can squeeze more columns into the day view or remove them (the gesture is just like you are zooming a picture in/out). This tip works for both iPhone and iPad.

I LOVE this app!

OK, I would not normally "gush" but this is truly the first time since iPhones arrived that I actually feel as though I can know exactly what is going on (or not) at a glance.

Whilst I have had my share of 'smart' phones in the years, the Apple devices have been the best from an aesthetic perspective and have grown to become the iconic devices that they are today. That is why we forgive the lack of some functionality. However, without an agenda program, it has always been difficult to see where we are when adding diaries and other necessary logistical issues. We tried various others before coming to PI and found them either useless or worse. Moving from WinDOHs to Macs made the organisation much more proactive, but it has been a vertical learning curve to find apps that get us where we need to be. The native Mac stuff works very well in isolation, but PI brings it all together in a very neat way when you are out and about.

With the addition of Billings and Solar, we have now - very ceremoniously - dumped every Microsoft product from our offices. All our FSEs have iPhones and iPads. Our sales people have iPhones and MacBook Airs and those in the office have MacBook Pros/iPhones and iPads as necessary.

Once we have finished testing PI fully (which usually takes around three weeks) we will roll it out across the entire organisation. We are frequently used for press releases and are consulted within the health industry by professional looking for appropriate solutions to their issues. We will be promoting this wherever and whenever possible.

WebIS is to be congratulated on the quality and production of the software - I know it has had its issues but the proactive feedback more than compensates.

Newbie to PI

Hi there PI users and lovers,

Surfing in this little forum because I was trying to work out how to sync between my Mac and my iPhone/iPad.

Now unlike many people, I have no problem with the device stuff, it is the Mac that worries me. I used to use ToDo from Appigo, but this is very limited and PI integrated everything from the start. It just seems to me that the Mac is wanting something - OR am I missing something here?

I use ToodleDo and Omnifocus but could not find any way to sync Omnifocus beyond the calendar app.

From an experience perspective, PI is the best I have come across (if a little expensive). I migrated my entire business to Macs, iPhones and iPads as I was sick of Windohs screwing up the business with updates and security problems. Since doing this, I have experienced more productivity, better moods from the gang and a whole load of envious glances from our customer base. Once I am happy with PI, I will roll this out to the staff as the PIM of choice.

Keep it up - as a developer I know what everyone goes through to get these apps out and it is really appreciated.
Is there a way to eliminate the 5 seconds countdown every time that PI is going to start the synch process? It should be good to go straight forward to synch instead of waiting for the countdown every time.

Also, what about adding like a progress or percent bar instead of the messages that appear? Something simple and faster. Check the miCal app sync indicator as reference.

Search only upcoming events

Is there a way to search only upcoming events? For example say I want to search by a subject's name to see all future meetings I might have with that subject. As it goes now, I get all past meetings also. This will surely soon get cumbersome. I would use smart folders for this but they only work for tasks. (Another request of mine would be to have smart folders for events...)

Also, one other thing: I have mentioned this in the past and I know it might be difficult, but it would be fantastic to be able to use tags across events/tasks/notes. For example, for an upcoming trip to Turkey, I have my "to do list" with all relevant tasks tagged "Turkey". I also have specific relevant events (flights, etc.) tagged "Turkey". Finally, I have a note or two tagged "Turkey". It would be extremely efficient to go to "tag" for "Turkey" and have all of the notes, events, and tasks in one place. As it stands now, I have to go into each separately and sort by tags. Linking these all together would make PI a fully comprehensive planner!

Thanks and looking foward to PI online.

I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere. I'm a new PI user and brand new to the Forum. I've done a little searching here but its a bit overwhelming so I thought I'd start a new topic instead.
My problem is that the priorities I set in PI for iPhone are not syncing over to the iPad. I'll mark a task "high priority" on PI for iPhone but after syncing(I sync with Google Tasks) the same task on the iPad shows no priority. I made sure all my priority settings match but is there something I missed? Everything else seems to sync fine.

Calendar Issues

I'm a long-time user of Pocket Informant, and I'm having some issues:

- Upon startup in list mode, the calendar items "swoosh" away to the upper left. This happens repeatedly, even if the app is running in the background and I activate it again.

- Worse, the calendar almost never starts up showing me the current day. It's always a month ago. Then I have to wait until the items swoosh away, come back before I can tap the Calendar button to bring to current day.

- Also, if I happen to be in a rush and not notice that the calendar is a month behind, any new calendar or task items default to that day.

Am I the only one having these issues? Am I being unreasonable?

Thanks in advance,

Pocket Informant for Mac

It has been publicly announced that WebIS is now working on a Mac-version of Pocket Informant.

Since no proper forum for a discussion on this exists on the site, I have chosen to ask about it in this forum - on the iOS versions of PI.

Which versions of OS X do you intend to support? At present, I have three Macs one of which only supports Leopard (it is a PPC-based Mac Pro). The two others run Lion - but will not run Mountain Lion.

This means that the oldest one doesn't support iCloud - though BusyCal (a calendar better than iCal but not as good as PI) can access iCloud and thus iCloud's calendar and task information. Thus, only contact sync through iCloud is missing, and it could be done through a suitable application.

It will also mean that extra facilities coming in iCloud will not be supported by my two newest computers, though they will be supported by third party applications running on them that access iCloud.

Furthermore, all sync will be supported on all computers through applications syncing through MS Exchange Server.

So: when do you plan for the Mac PI to be ready?

Which versions of OS X do you intend to support? As far as I know, it is mainly a matter of compiler options to make apps Universal, running on both PPC and Intel computers. The same with older versions of OS X.

And - I know Exchange Server support is not your top priority; your own PI Online ranks higher. But when do you intend to support the de facto sync standard in enterprise - and at my own school. The University of Copenhagen?

Calendar Filters are undermining the Power of Pocket Informant

Hi Alex,

Everyone agrees that one of the most important features of PI is to show at the same time events and tasks in the calendar view.

However, I think the current calendar filters are undermining the Power of Pocket Informant. At the moment is only possible to filter by calendars OR by tags. It is not possible to filter calendars AND by tags. I will describe below how this is affecting my working flow and why this is so important.

In theory PI can handle several fields for:

- Event item (calendar; tag1, tag2..)

- Task item (calendar; tag1, tag2...; context; project, priorities)

At the moment, calendar filters are only able to handle calendars OR tags, therefore I tend to use:

- Event item (calendar; tag1, tag2..)

- Task item (calendar; tag1, tag2..)

Also, I tend to keep simple: 2 calendars (work, personal); and I use tags for each project/client/priorities/subject:

- Event item (calendar(work); tag1(client1))
- Event item (calendar(work); tag2(client2))
- Event item (calendar(work); tag2(client2),tag3(money))

- Task item (calendar(work); tag1(client1))
- Task item (calendar(work); tag2(client2))
- Task item (calendar(work); tag2(client2),tag3(money),tag4 (urgent))

- Event item (calendar(personal); ,tag4 (urgent))
- Task item (calendar(personal); tag4 (urgent))
-....

I just want to display all event and tasks from calendar work AND with tag1 (client1). Or display all event and tasks from calendar work AND with tag (urgent) and tag (money). Or display all event and tasks from calendar personal AND with tag (urgent).

Could you please add the feature to filter items by calendars AND by tags. I do remember that you mention that UI would be too complex. I do not agree with that. Why just not and AND or OR button? I really cannot see the issue with the user interface.

Regards

PI crashes when I enter appointments

Hello,
Having used PI for over 6 years, I'm really frustrated with it on my iPad 2 running 5.0.1 (yes it's jailbroken, but I buy software). Of course, I read all the negative stuff before buying it, but I didn't believe it was that bad, sorry.
I have done clean install and use internal events for all my appointments, since that's how I sync. PI crashes each time I enter 2nd or 3rd appointment and instead of saving time I waste a lot of time with PI.
Im sorry for this negative post and I love PI no matter what, but how do I use it?
One last thing. Why is the IPA not a universal IPA?
Hello Alex and everybody,

I am a returning user from the WM days of PI.

I have just bought it for my new iPad (I have also the iPhone version), since the iPad version looks like the most useful version ever of PI as a full replacement of my paper agenda ;-) .
I sync it with GoogleCalendar and Toodledo. It seems to work flawlessly for now.
But when I try to create a new task, the task input panel opens but I cannot access to the keyboard when I click in the text fields (like the task name field). Am I doing something wrong?
I use the last version of PI for iPad bought today from the AppStore.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Murat

EDIT: Solved. Not! See below
I have restarted PI ans the iPad and now it works and I can write in these fields.

EDIT 2: No, the problem reappears and I have to coletely close and restart PI to get back the keyboard in text fields. This is quite inconvenient. Also, during typing I cannot se click and hold to move in the typed text to insert a new word or correct it.

Since tasks can be given a priority, it would be nice to be given the option to only be shown tasks with a certain priority (or higher). Like only those with top priority in the month view.
