Alerts are working fine on my Torch (i.e., I can set them in PI, and they notify me as expected)... but I noticed today that after syncing with my laptop that all alerts have been removed from outlook. After some experimentation, it appears to me to be a PI<->BB database sync issue. if i create events with alerts/reminders in PI, the BB calendar and outlook, and then sync my torch to outlook, the following happens:
a) event with an alert/reminder created in PI appears fine in PI, but has no alert/reminder in BB calendar or outloook

Sync isuues

Hello,

I have been a faithful Pocket Informant user for many years. Most successfully with Windows Mobile based products. About a year ago I made the switch to a Blackberry Tour and have NEVER been able to get Pocket Informant to Sync correctly. Below is my PIM setup is.

I sync with only one computer at Work.

Windows XP Professional, Blackberry Desktop Manager 6.xx (Not sure what the last build is, but I just downloaded it today), Outlook 2010 (With Google Apps Sync setup with my IMAP corporate email)

I'm confused about....

#1 I have NEVER been able to get my Outlook AND Pocket Informant AND Blackberry Contact, Calendar, and Tasks to EVER match.

#2 Sometime contacts, events, or task don't show up at all and other times I will get duplicates (Most commonly with Contacts and Calendar Events)

What am I doing wrong?? I have tried many different setups....(i.e. BBPIM always sync to Pocket Informant and Pocket Informant sync to BBPIM and Outlook not matching either of them)

I just want to know what is the best way to make my Blackberry and Outlook to match. It's critical that if I put something in my BB that it goes to my Outlook and it is even more critical that ANYTHING I put in Outlook syncs with my Blackberry.

Can someone PLEASE HELP ME?!?!?

Thank you in advance!

I have been using PIBB for a month, using the calendar entries usb synced from Outlook 2007 to my PIM. I just started BlackBerry Enterprise syncing from a web based Outlook used by my employer. The BB Calendar program merges both calendars. PIBB only syncs with my personal calendar or the corporate calendar but not both. I found an article in your Knowledge database describing how to copy entries from my calendar to the corporate (desktop), but, eventhough it asks me if I want to do the transfer, nothing actually happens. How can I get PIBB to sync locally both calendars?

Outlook Sync with BB Desktop 6.0

I'm setting up my father's BB and he's got BB Desktop 6.0.

When I had a BB I used PIBB and BB Desktop 4.something.

on BB Desktop, in their sync options there was a 'configure add-ins' option through which you configured the syncing of Outlook to PIBB.

On BB desktop 6.0 I can't find anyway to sync PIBB with Outlook, can anyone offer me any help please?

(As soon as possible would be good as I go home soon and I'd like to have this sorted before we leave.)

Thanks

Search question

Dear PI,

I usually want to search all fields when performing a search. Say, I might have a phone number ending in 5555 in a note in a contact, I would like to search for "5555" and find that contact. Right now it seems to me that search is limited to some fields - at least when I enter 5555 in the search view my contact does not show up, and the 5555 is there in the notes field. Any suggestoins? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again

date picker, insert contact

I am a new to the BB platform. Can anyone help me figure out how to access two features from the windows mobile version of BB that I came to rely upon? A quick glance at the manual (v 1.5) and a search of the forums have me worried that they are not currently possible, but I am hoping that I am just missing something

1) How do I specify that PIBB use the equivalent of the WinMo date picker, wherein a month calendar pops up when you are trying to select a date for a new event (I am using public release beta 2.11 on a Torch, and when I select a date I get the Torch default date picking scroll wheels - which are nowhere near as useful as the PI calendar)?

2) How do you insert a phone number into the notes section of an event or task

PI and Toysoft Inc.'s Send It

Hi! I had been using Toysoft's Send It (see http://www.toysoft.ca/sendit_bb.html) to send predefined text messages to my contacts from BB's contact view. I recently installed PIM on my BB Bold 9700. I love the software and want to keep using it.

However, I can't send predefined texts from PI's contact view since "Send SMS with Send It" does not appear in the contextual menu I get from selecting a name in PI's contact view.

I am wondering what option I have:
a- regularly perform a PI->BB contact sync and tweak some application authorization settings someplace,
b- wait till WebIS comes up with a compatible version,
c- find yet another add-on to send predefined texts

Your opinion and advice will be very much appreciated!

Missing events?

First: I understand that PocketInformant does not directly sync with Google calendar. Wish it did, this all might work better. :\

So I have an odd thing going on. I bought Pocket Informant, installed it, and it immediately displayed my Google calendar. (Good thing) I am using Google Sync to sync three Google calendars. All of them populate properly (each in their own nice color) in my default blackberry calendar app. And entries for all show up in Pocket Informant. They aren't color coded but that really doesn't matter to me.

The issue is that I have noticed that when I add new events to pocket informant they do NOT properly add to the default blackberry calendar (and hence my default gmail calendar). Additionally, events created on the computer on my default gmail calendar are not showing up on Pocket Informant. SOME of them are, but some aren't. Forcing a sync doesn't change this. Again, all show up properly on the default blackberry calendar app.

Any ideas what the problem might be? I really, really like the easy view Pocket Informant gives me, but if it won't reliably load everything in my schedule it's useless.

I have attached a couple of screen shots of my calendar.
In the second, the two events are consecutive. The first ends at 4:26p and the second starts at 4:26. They should be stacked, but are staggered.

is it just me -- task view sorting is -- almost there

task view in 2.1 with new sorting features is great BUT

1) very slow -- been covered in other forum posts so won't address here
2) there is no way to hide future events -- all i want to see are items that are due (due today and overdue) -- optionally also able to see undated items in same view -- that is all i want to do is have a view that hids future tasks -- have requested this as a feature as long as i've used PI, but still not there -- you can hide future events in "today" view but can't then use all the nifty features of the task view.
3) seems that undated items when sorted by date are "before" dated items which makes no sense -- if i have a lot of undated items and sort by descending date (most logical view IMO) all the undated items appear above the dated items so you have to scroll forever if you have as many undated items as i do. -- would seem logical that no matter how date is sorted that undated items would be at the bottom of the list not the top.

fix these two sorting items and the task view would be a hands down winner (assuming performanc edoesn't take a hit implementing this)
The GTD folks have just released a Blackberry guide for GTD users. It was in their newsletter yesterday, July 14, 2010
https://secure.davidco.com/store/catalog/GTD--BLACKBERRY-SETUP-GUIDE-p-16645.php
They write in the newsletter
"I've now moved, along with some of my senior coaching staff, to a BlackBerry"
and in the product guide description at the above URL they say
"Everything we recommend in this Guide should work with the applications already built-in to your device. At this time, we are not officially recommending or endorsing any add-on applications for your BlackBerry."

Sounds like a great time to give David Allen along with some of his senior coaching staff a copy of PI for the Blackberry.
I send them a note saying they should give PI a try.

2.1 ChangeLog

Greetings,

I (like others) got an email from MobiHand saying 2.1 was available. I've been waiting six months for this since crucial fixes that were promised in 2.0 were not delivered in 2.0. I was then told "2.1" for the fixes. So, I was happy to see that, out of the blue, finally 2.1 is released. But, my problem now may be due to my own blindness, so there's the help I need. I cannot find a simple, readable, organized list of changes from 2.0 to 2.1. I have been all over WebIS.net but I just must be blind.

I see a feature list on the main PI for BB product page. And sure, a few are labeled as "new" so I guess I just assume those are 2.1. But I am sure there are MANY fixes and features that are in 2.1, that are new since 2.0, that are not listed there--what's listed there is merely for marketing, where you list the biggest/most visible features. In software development I'm used to a standard "changelog" and/or "what's new" file but I simply can't find one.

Does anybody know where it is?

I do not want to bother with a PI update if the crucial things I need fixed aren't fixed (such as PI Time Zone Chaos, where changing time zones, in the crazy event that you travel more than 300 miles from your house, completely screws up all recurring tasks and appointments, permanently (have to re-enter/fix) and the inability of PI to sync notes in tasks/appointments). I had support cases on these and gave up, being told 2.1 was the horizon, but since promised fixes for 2.0 were not fulfilled in 2.0 I am not going to bother trying to update if nobody can say (in a changelog for example) that at least the fixes I'm looking for are "supposed" to be there. I've seen this fish before so don't want to bother unless there's hope of promise-delivery.

Thanks much for any pointers to the changelog.

I got an email from MobiHand saying new version 2.1 available to me. I down loaded and installed. It now says the version was not intended for my my BB Bold 9700 and blocks access/does not run on the BB. Has anyone else experienced this. I have sent an email to support but there is a 2 week delay.
I cannot access PI and so have lost access to important data plus lost the use of PI.
Anyone any ideas or similar experience? How do i return to previous version? ...
Best wishes

Alarming Instability

I've been trying to get PI alarms to work consistently on my BB Storm1.

Each time I set PI to handle alarms, things get unstable. When an alarm happens, a garbled square window appears on the screen instead of the alarm. At that point, my only option is a battery pull. I can switch between screens, but no inputs work and the alarm display window remains.

Any suggestions? I'm stumped.

Category Colors changing?

(Apologies if this is a dup)

I recently switched from WM to BB and now have Pocket Informant for BlackBerry OS 4.2-4.6. What I can't seem to figure out is, when I set up my category colors it will be the color I chose in the picker while I am in the 'edit categories' menu but when I look at my calendar it's always some other variant of the color I chose.

Example; I have a category called "Kids" and it's plain orange. When I have appointments on my calendar under that category, the color ranges from brown to tan or some other combination. Even if two identical events are next to each other they appear with altered colors.

Suggestions?
Thanks,

Update
I realised when I resized/renamed these that the naming was wrong and all you could see was a blue icon when an icon was chosen. I've fixed them up and added more for you
If you make icons make sure the name for all 3 sizes is exactly the same. IE: L_rose M_rose and for 10x10 S_rose

**Please Note: I did not make any of these icons I just resized and renamed them for PI**
All credit goes to the wonderful people at http://www.iconspedia.com/

Hi All,
Here are some Icons I've resized. Each zip file contains 3 of the same icon. one is 32x32 the next is 16x16 and the last is 10x10.

Create a a folder on your BB memory card called PI Icons or something, unzip each file and place the icons you want in there.

You also have to open PI then icons and browse to the new icon folder you created.

After installing all of the icons I unplugged my BB then rebooted it. Open PI create new event and scroll to the icons. Your new icons should be visible.

If you do install all of the icons from the zip files, when you do click on the icon button in PI it does take a while to open because there are so many icons

If I get bored I may make some more later

I am trying to sync my contacts from Outlook to my Blackberry through the Blackberry Desktop Manager and the Add-in downloaded with PI. I have about 280 contacts and most of them sync fine. However, I have 20 contacts that only sync the name with no data. It is always the same contacts. I have synced using the overwrite flag for the initial sync. When I sync after that, PI tries to delete those same contacts in both PI and Outlook. I have also wiped the memory of the phone, reset everything and tried again with the same results.

Enhanced & Saving Filters

Apologies if this is the wrong area to ask this, but when I go to the "Features you want" post, it seems to be locked, and I need a different (?) login to place a vote.

Anyway, I saw a couple of slightly different, yet definitely related feature requests on that list that dealt with enhanced filtering. Could someone provide some feedback as to whether these are 'in the pipe' or not? Ideally, I'm looking for the ability to set filters that might look like this, for example:

- show me all my tasks in categories x, y, or z with a due date of 7 days or less;
- show me all my starred tasks in categories x, y, or z,

I'd like to be able to set up a number of these "enhanced" filters, and then be able to save them, to be recalled easily in the future.

Are there plans to look into / implement something like this? If not, could it be checked out?

Background:
- corporate BB (8830), running on BES, syncing with Outlook.

Thanks!

I have set up a local sync between PI BB and the device PIM. I then use Desktop Manager's device PIM <==> Outlook sync feature. By default, the sync prompts you to confirm changes to contacts, events, and tasks.

I want to disable the confirmation prompts, but I don't know how reliable the DM's sync system is. RIM recommends confirming deletions and changes manually, which suggests that it's not that reliable.

Have you disabled the prompts? What problems have you run into, if any? If you keep the prompts on, have you ever NOT confirmed an event change or deletion because of an error you noticed?

UI Concerns from New User

I think this is fantastic software. I like how configurable it is, and I like that I can make good use of my keyboard to navigate the application.

I do have a couple of minor UI issues. I'm wondering how hard they'd be to address:

1.) There's no keyboard shortcut to create a new event, although there's one to create a new task. That means you can't make an event from the Task or Contact views with a shortcut (because the "New Item" shortcut is context sensitive).

2.) When you have your Menu Command action set to "Open," you have no quick way to view items. A "View" entry isn't added to the context menu and there's no keyboard shortcut you can configure to view an item.

If you set the command action to "View," then the Edit menu item should be the first item in the menu. Currently Open is first in the menu. With this setting, you can view items by clicking on the trackball AND by selecting the first item on the menu; to edit items, you have to scroll through the menu.

3.) Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut to edit the note section of an event, task, or contact?

I jot down notes about events and tasks over the course of the day. The action takes a while to complete. To edit notes, I have to open an item and scroll all the way to the last field. To view notes, I have to do the same (because I have no quick way of Viewing items because of the issue described in (2).

Syncing GTD (Getting Things Done) capabilities with Outlook?

I've seen the GTD features in PI 2.0 and have been reading the book. I'd like to try it.

However, I spend much of my time using Outlook on my desktop and I'm not sure how to use the GTD features PI supports with Outlook so everything syncs correctly. I currently have Outlook sync to the native PIM using Desktop Manager, then sync PI to the native PIM. Can I do that and have GTD support in Outlook? If so, how do the fields map? If not, how should I do it?

Thanks for your help - Rob.

PI Sync with Outlook 2010

I downloaded and installed a copy of Office 2010 RTM from TechNet. I had my doubts as to whether PI would sync with it but thought that I would try. Has any one found a way to make this work or should I just wait until the PI sync for Outlook is updated?
