PROPER sync with RTM

After a pretty intensive polling of available WinMo task list programs I have concluded that PI largely has no competitor. It is FAR AND AWAY better than anything out there. (I like the rest of the capabilities as well, but the task handler is amazing.)

The world is moving into the cloud. And there are some amazing sites out there to help Get Things Done. Probably the best-known one is RememberTheMilk with ToodleDo or Nozbe or Todoist being the follow-ups. (This is not based on a scientific survey -- just several days of web-browsing and trying things out and reading comments people have made.)

So if we combine the best WinMo task list program (PI) with the best known cloud task list (RTM) we arrive at a hole that needs to be filled -- how to sync these 2 programs so you have your tasklist effectively both on a large screen as well as on your phone. Milksync attempts to fill this hole. Emphasis on the word "attempts". The most basic fields are mapped, but so many other fields are not sync'd at all (projects & contexts being the biggest hole -- could easily be handled thru tags, but Milksync chooses otherwise). The end result is I am finding it almost impossible to maintain a GTD list that is usable on both platforms.

As I continued my research I found that MilkSync is actually an open source project. I was able to download the source from this location: Remember the Milk, the Dairy

I used to do C programming as my day-job, but I never got into C++ so it was a bit of a stretch to figure out how things were working. Most annoying is the fact that I don't have a copy of Visual Studio to actually try compiling it so I could put some trace statements in or something. But I did get far enough to realize that this file:

MilkSync/clients/winmobile/clientdll/src/cpp/TaskBuilder.cpp

has the mapping between the WinMo database and the funambol site. I am assuming (perhaps wrongly?) that if this mapping were altered on the phone that different fields could be populated during the sync. I actually went thru and noted the 3-4 sections that would need to be changed (see attached commented file).

I believe that a WORKING and EFFECTIVE sync between RTM and PI would be hugely beneficial to both platforms. And it appears that the cost of developing the software would be pretty limited, particularly since the whole sync thing is working and all we need is a slight change to the mapping...

If licensing is an issue, WebIS, wouldn't it be worthwhile to throw a programmer at this for a day or 2 and put it out there non-commercially? Wouldn't the increased sales of PI more than compensate? I've noticed that you're working towards a sync program with Toodledo, and I will switch from RTM to Toodledo if you get that working in a way that is effective (PI is more important to me than RTM). But there are an awful lot of RTM users out there that are primarily RTM users and will not change that just for sync-capabilities with their phone... If they heard that there was a super-effective GTD system they could run on their phone I think you would get a decent amount of business in return for throwing some man hours at an open source development project (which, in and of itself, increases your "good feeling" among your clients when they know you are contributing like that...)

Note that I think most people using RTM for GTD do *not* use lists for projects. See this link for how GTD is being implemented effectively and efficiently in RTM. I think any effective sync should support an option set which includes this, if not actually defaulting to this scheme. Basically it means mapping RTM tags to the various PI fields (but categories at a minimum). Configuring prefixes for tags (i.e., @x becomes a context while .x becomes a project -- that kind of thing) results in a hugely flexible and effective GTD implementation that *really* *works* on both platforms.

Notes in Appointments

So, I'm creating an appointment that contains flight information, links, etc. The idea is that when I have a flight, I can go to the appointment and get all my details.
When I open the appointment from the Day view, I don't see the formatting in the subject, in fact, any blank lines are removed. However, when I go into edit mode, and select the Notes tab, I have formatting, and links, while formatted blue and underlined, are not functional.

If this is the expected behavior, any chance on getting this more "functional"?
has been working for months now just crashes on every attempt to open anything. Started off yesterday just crashing on startup of calendar agenda and day view, then spread to contacts, now nothing will open more than one second (it tries, just crashes). I have uninstalled PI from phone and reinstalled it, no change. Then uninstalled and deleted all Outlook data, reinstalled (with no data) and the mobile outlook shows no data anywhere (which is now correct). Reinstalled PI, still crashes with no data in contacts/calendar. Short of hard resetting the phone, what can I do? I leave on vacation out of the country in 1-1/2 days and need a solution ASAP, please help

Hello all,
I'm a new user and I have a question about PI for my HTC HD2.
I downloaded the trial and I can say it's a great software, but I'm scratching my head to found a solution to my problem. Could you please help me?

I have a lof of appointments (I prefer them to tasks for a lot of reasons).
Work appointments like meetings, Timesheet, and so on, and personal appointments are still syncronized with outlook... Most of them are with recurrences like every weeks, every months and so on....

The question is:
Since WM6 notify me with a popup and the only options I have are: "Dismiss" or "Snooze". Is there a way to hide the dismissed appointments ?
I'm using actually the PI Agenda View with 5 days view, so is very annoyng to see the dismissed appointments, I would like to show only the upcoming one!

Thanks for you time.

Custom day colors not showing unless Category colors are turned on

OK, sorry if the question is basic - even though I used PI for years, I've never used this particular feature.

What I am trying to accomplish is, by simply glancing at the screen (1) being able to separate personal stuff from work stuff (2) see days when I am out of office either on vacation or on a business trip.

I always used categories + icons for that. Now, after moving to the new phone with a smaller screen, I decided to try a new approach. I think I spent way too much time assigning categories so that I could see the icons. Plus, it seems having icon display on slows down PI a bit. The new me wants to go to just a handful of categories. And use colors instead of icons.

But I ran into two problems.

First, I don't see a simple way to assign the color to multiple days. If I select them in MV it just zooms in, and if I select them in the zoomed in MV there's no command to assign colors. Assigning colors to every day of a 10 day vacation is time consuming. Am I missing anything here ?

Second, I don't see a way to turn on the specific assigned color display in year view without turning on Category color display. The problem is all my personal categories are coded with same color so if I turn on category color display in YV pretty much every day is colored. I want to only show the manually assigned day colors, is it possible ?

Here's the example. Screenshot 1 has category colors off. Screenshot 2 has them on. The manually colored days (bright green and purple) only show when Category Colors are on. The brownish-red colored days are the ones with personal appointments which I really don't want to see here.
I have looked on this forum and a few other on the internet for a response to my query. I have PI9 and cannot view appoints that have occured in the previous months . I can only view recurring appointments which I noticed a forum member could not do. I have tried to do the opposite of this and it still does not work. I have checked the settings and 'Show completed appointments' is marked as yes. This is quite frustrating as I constantly need to look back through months of appointments to check information. I have set the user to Power User and have closed PI correctly. This still does not work. I hope this is an easy thing to sort out and I've just missed something.

Tasks in calendar view & a project question

Hello everybody,

I just installed PI again and I forgot where the option was which would give you the possibility to view the day specific tasks in calendar view.
So if you know, please tell me

I also got a question for the developers, because I don't know if this is possible. Is it possible to customize the projectview? Most of the projects I (and probably must of us) have are part of a big picture project. I know David Allen has his own method regarding this point, but I would really like to see a structure like this, because it keeps a real good overview:

Project 1:
- Project 1.1
* task a
* task b
- Project 1.2
 * task a
* task b

Project 2:
- Project 2.1
* task a
* task b
* task c
- Project 2.2
* task a
* task b

Well you get the idea, I hope this is or will be possible in the future.

How to set up a 2nd alarm that is one day before

i recently switched from agendafusion to pocketinformant.
I liked very much a function in agendausion that can set reminder alarm that is day(s) before the appointment.

However, i notice in PI, there's only ways to set 2nd reminder that are minutes before the appointment.
Is there anyway to change that? That would be an excellent feature indeed.

Thanks

Please help..meeting/appt requests

Hi,

I need to again ask this forum for help after unsuccessfully trying for hours to figure this problem out on my own.

I am running WM 6.5 on my HTC HD2 (T-mobile version) and have decided to start using the send invite/request instead of calling or emailing numerous people to events the old-fashioned way. I do not use an exchange server nor do I sync my mail with Outlook. Is this still possible? I created a "test" meeting, clicked attendees, clicked my own email address to try the feature out and got the pop up to invite attendee which I click yes to. The email does not go out to invite (it stays in the outbox), nor does it get put in my calendar (other than the original test appointment) so I'm not sure I'm understanding the feature correctly or just missing ticking off a box or something.

Any help is appreciated. I've also downloaded the trial of Flexmail but can't get that to work either.

Thanks for any info

HTC HD Mini - screenres. 320 x480 - P I Informant - eWallet

Hi

My HTC Touch Cruise is near to an end.
My new phone may be a HTC HD Mini, screen res. on that phone is 320 x 480.

I have used PI Informant and eWallet for years and are addicted to these two programs.
Are these two programs running fine at this "new" resolution?

Any of you out there with any experience with that phone and resolution?

Thanks
