I am proud to announce Pocket Informant 2007 Rev Public Beta which includes some major improvements throughout the application. We have focused on one handed use, automated features, and improvements to the user interface.

Some of the major improvements include:
  • Much improved One Handed support throughout the application
  • Contacts Filtering has been rewritten to have a much better UI and better searching (including across field boundaries for names)
  • A basic Today plugin
  • PhatPad 4 Preview within the Notes View
  • Majorly improved Icon Picker
  • Contacts Editor Navigation improvements
  • Show All Appointments for this Contact menu command
  • Attendees in Appointment Summaries are now hyperlinked
  • A brand new HLS color picker
  • Macro Timers %tm1-4% and %dtm1-4%
  • Option to show project names on a task when not in project view
  • Automatic Category Filters on a schedule
  • Improved Category Editor
  • Contacts View now has Call Log and Recent Contacts list
  • Updated Installer with 400+ pre-installed icons
There are many more small improvements throughout the application, but these are the main ones that I think we've been asked for. I have provided both CAB and desktop EXE installers here:

I take that back - it is in settings. But again only for WM5. If you go to the Tasks View Settings (advanced), you can turn it on or off. Its on by default. But it is only for WM5+ devices due to performance on Wm2003.

# Improved Category Editor

Hi Alex, where can we change the font size, it's too big.

The font size in the category editor is not changeable. It is bigger because it needs to be. It is now the default system size for type because its going to use the space anyway due to the icons. I know sometimes my changes are not loved by everyone, but its the change I decided to make.

The idea is great, but, I find it way too big!

Its only one size bigger than before :) Now on the Category FILTER/Chooser dialog - I am making that one smaller than it is now. It was supposed to be smaller, but I only realized it was too big right before public beta. For beta it was fine. But for the Editor itself, I think the size is acceptable.

OK - the way I have things setup now for release is the text size in the category filter and chooser is the same as before but the editor is the large size.

Alex,

I like the new version, especially the timed filters. I just have one question, why didn't you make it so it can switch custom views based on time? Wouldn't that be more powerful than the current way?

Love the changes! Just one glitch so far: Under "view appointments with", it will show all appointments with anyone with the same first name or the same last name. For example, if you select "John Smith" under contacts and choose "show appointments with", it will bring up appointment with John Doe, John Mcgillicutty, Jane Smith, etc.

I am running pocketinformant on a HTC Trinity.
In Mobile Outlook I have the possibility in the context menu of a contact to send this contact as an SMS message.
If I do a long tap on the contact there is "send contact" in the context menu and under that point I can choose between infrared and SMS.
In the context menu of a contact in pocketinformant this point is missing! It is also not under the sub-menu "Outlook Mobile Plugins".
I really would need this feature!
Is there anything you can do about it?

Early impressions are good. The great news for PC2003 users is that the previously mentioned annoying 2-3 second delay in showing a context menu after a tap-n-hold and for opening an item in the editor has gone. Yup, it's as fast as PI 2005 was in this respect. So previously expressed fears that the PC2003 version couldn't be made faster were unfounded. Way to go.

Other comments:
  • I like the big fonts in the category editor - good for my old eyes
  • The timed filters have promise but I agree with a previous poster - better if they were hooked to custom views
  • The Today app also has promise, but how do we configure it? Mine just shows appointments. Would like to be able to see tasks. Again I would vote for configuration based on custom views, and if they, and the today applet, were hooked into the timed filters thing, then so much the better.
More as it comes to hand
Regards, Stephen Walter
