I have an Samsung Omnia i910 that I used to sync with XP without errors. I just got a laptop with Windows 7 and WMDC 6.1.6195. I am trying to switch which computer I sync with mainly to use the laptop with Windows 7. I am getting strange results, though. I'm not sure what the problem is. I keep getting a sync error:

The following appointments failed to synchronize from the device:
1. Subject: Birthday
Time: 2/5/10 12:00 AM
Duration: 1440 minutes
2. Subject: Birthday
Time: 2/5/10 12:00 AM
Duration: 1440 minutes
3. Subject: Birthday
Time: 2/5/

First off, the problem is hard to troubleshoot, since I don't know how to see the full list of errors. Does WMDC keep a log somewhere?

I think that this has something to do with the setting in PI9 - "Apply Contact Birthdays/Anniversaries (not for use with desktop Outlook)". I have it set to "no" but that is the only thing that I can think could be causing the problem. First off, there is only 1 birthday on 2/5/10. I don't know why there are multiple errors. Any ideas?

No, that setting couldn't possibly do anything to sync. All it does is have PI read your Contact list and show their birthdays within PI. It doesn't create appointments or events. The reason it says "not for use with Desktop Outlook" is because it would then double the info on-screen (since we'd show the Contact info PLUS the birthdays that Outlook creates.

As for the error, I can't really help much. Here are some links I found:

..well honestly I have that problem as well - esp. since I moved on to PI9. Strange enough, only on one comp using W7 as well - on my netbook (W7) no such problem.

So I had suspected PI as well, but being along with PI quite some time, I could'nt find any proof and my understanding is that PI is just reading the WM PIM.

I resolved this problem only partly, as it does reoccur from time to time on the one comp.

1.) Check notifications queue (SK Tools, Resco,Total commander) you'll find invalid entries starting with CAL.
2.) note the dates, and delete them
3.) Go to date, and delete appointment if still there
4.) if that is an reoccuring appointment, delete it and set it new

Since PI uses the Microsoft POOM API to write all data, its not really possible for PI to mess up your appt data to cause sync issues. POOM does data validation so it doesn't allow bad values to be written to the database.

I have Total Commander, but I don't see how to see the notifications queue in that program?

Actually, I'm not sure that this will solve the problem either. Today, I went in to edit a contact in PI9 and gave it a birthday for tomorrow. I immediately went back into the Agenda view, and sure enough there was already a Birthday event in there for tomorrow! But...it only said " Birthday" without a name or category. I have had events show up like this before, and deleted them. These then become errors during the sync. The problem then is that the event has been deleted! How do I access it again to fix it?

This may not be the best place/forum to solve this problem. If you can point me to a better place, that would be great! I just want it solved. I am using PI9, and SPB Mobile Shell3.5 on an Omnia 910 running a WM6.5 rom. I can't find a way to see this event anywhere other than within PI9, and I haven't synced it yet with my computer, so the obvious place to point was PI9 causing problems...

If its a Contact birthday AND you have the PI Birthday/Anniversary feature on, then yes it'll show up immediately because PI is looking at contact changes, sees a date change and then virtually displays that birthday on-screen. If you're syncing with Outlook, then Outlook will create a real appt for that.

So if the ONLY place you're seeing it within PI - then its not real. It doesn't exist. Its not a real event - its just a phantom that PI shows you based on the contact info.

Well, the problem is that I DON'T have the PI Birthday/Anniversary feature on. What I had wondered, is if that feature is working correctly. I haven't synced my phone yet, so it can't be a Outlook 2007 problem. It IS a strange event, though. It is always an all-day event, with an alarm of 63 hours when one of these "events" pops up. I have reflashed my phone a couple of times, and have always saved the PI settings file and restored them once my phone was back up and running again. Is it possible that there is a problem with the settings file that I just keep importing?

Some phones will do that also for you automatically. But its important to note that PI never creates actual anniversary/birthday appts. Ever. So if its a real appointment of some kind with an alarm, then something else outside of PI is creating it. If its ONLY showing up within PI, then that's just strange and I have no answer for you because that doesn't really sound possible.

See the virtual events that PI creates for birthdays/anniversaries, if you tap on them it opens a Contact, not an event (since no event exists). If its opening an event - its a REAL event that exists in the database. So that means its something outside of PI.

Bummer. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I was kind of hoping that it was PI9, and you could fix it! Now I'm back to the drawing board... On the other hand, glad that PI9 is apparently working perfectly!
