I've seen posts that ask how to enter an adhoc journal item - i.e. you're interupted by an urgent phone call while working on a task and need to log the action items from the call so you won't forget.

1. make sure you check the box for new menu items in PPC's settings/menus/new menu. when you do your PI new menu should have the choice "Journal" listed at the top of the new menu.

2. Enter you journal entry:
i.e.
Sub: Adhoc Item
Type: Phone Call
Dur: 10 minutes
Body: Contact Name - John Doe

Done![/img]

Thanks for the tip!

Wish it would show up on the Today screen "new" menu as well!

Don't if others missed this but I thought I'd mention that the overview of ALL journal entries can be found under:

tools/Manage.../View All Journal Entries

this PI screen even shows the parent item to the journal entry - cooooool :-)

Very timely Dixon!

Was just wondering how I would ever delete an ad-hoc entry!

Weird thing is, almost all of my entried in this view have blank parent & subject (when in fact they actually arent blank)

weird.

After inputting a journal entry and using the check mark to close it, I then go to the hammer, go to manage, go to view all journal entries: this brings up a screen titled Journal Entries. Below the title are two boxes: the first box has up-and-down arrows on the right hand side. Across the top of this first box are five columns headers but they appear to have shifted to the left. When first viewing this screen the column headers are S, T, D, and T. If I drag the column lines to the right, I find the last column is Timestamp; column number three is Duration; column number two is Type; column number one is Subject.

The second box on the screen says inside it: tap on journal entry to get note.

However the journal entries are not there.

Below these two boxes are edit and delete boxes.

In an ideal world, the journal entries would include completed tasks, notes on tasks, appointments, meetings, telephone calls etc. and could be divided into personal Journal Notes and work journal Notes. I did pay an extra eight dollars for the journal and would like to be able to utilize it.

Though the Journal Notes don't appear to be there when I go to the journal entry section, they do appear when I download into Outlook.

Now what? Anyone else???

OK, yes - lets see what we can find. Let me see if I can summarize:

1) So you created the journal on PPC and it did sync to the desktop - and it shows just fine on Outlook - right?
2) You are creating a journal entry through the tap/hold on an item method or through the New menu?
3) What if you have the PPC NOT synching (i.e. off the cradle) then create a journal item, does it show?

If I sent you a database tool - could you export the contents for me?

The entries are generally created by new and choosing journal. 99% of the entries are done independent of the desktop, by this method of going to new.

Journal entrys do not show up before syncing to Outlook when going to the hammer and through the process I have described.

Journal entrys show up fine in Outlook after syncing.

My husband says if you send the tool w/instructions we should be able to send you the contents.

Hope this answers the questions you posed.

Yes, indeed. It sounds like then the bug is in PI....though I'm not sure what yet. Email me at

a l e x ___a-t___ w e b i s _dot_ net

and I'll send you the tool if I don't figure it out myself.

The problem that scrapindee outlined has just shown up on my iPaq. Has a solution been found yet?

If this helps, I had been using journal sync for several months without incident. Last night I created an ActiveSync patnership with a new computer, and reinstalled journal sync to get the conduit. Since then journal entries do not show up when choosing "View All Journal Entries" and the screen shows the 4 letters - S T D T - skewed off to the left.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

It took me a while to fathom this one out, do this if you want "Journal" to appear on your "New" menu.
1) Go to PocketPC/Settings/Menus/New Menu.
2) Check the "Turn on New button Menu" box
3) OK out of that sceen and go into any PI screen (eg Contacts)
4) Tap on the little 'up' arrow that now appears to the right of the 'New'.
5) Hey presto, 'Journal' appears at the top :D

Great tip, thanks.

Just curious if you don't want to add a new menu item (my start menu is full), is there a way to do a new journal entry in PI without having to associate it with a Calendar/Task/Contact ?

Right now I tap and hold on an item, select Edit, the New Journal. Was wondering if there was another Menu...?
