You sit down to start the day. There is a meeting at 10, a document someone needs by lunch, and a task you have already moved twice.
Then you open your list and remember five more things.
Where do you begin?
Sometimes the most useful first step is a question: “What’s on my plate today?”
Pocket Informant for ChatGPT is available now. With your Informant Sync account connected, you can ask about your calendar and tasks through conversation. That gives you a place to start thinking through the day ahead.
Start with the day you actually have
Picture a morning like this:
- A meeting from 10 to 11.
- A proposal draft due at noon.
- A personal appointment in the afternoon.
- Several smaller tasks competing for attention.
Each item looks manageable on its own. Together, they need a few decisions.
Before choosing what to tackle, try asking Pocket Informant in ChatGPT:
“What is on my calendar today, and which tasks are due?”
This is an example request, and the information returned depends on your connected account. Review it for anything missing, especially commitments you have agreed to but have not recorded yet.
Now you have something concrete to work with: the appointments that occupy your time and the tasks asking for a share of it.
Tell the conversation what matters
A due date gives you one piece of the picture. You know the rest.
Perhaps the proposal needs only a final check. Perhaps it still needs an hour of writing. Perhaps that 10 o’clock meeting requires preparation you have not started.
Add that context to the conversation. For our hypothetical morning, you could say:
“The proposal needs about an hour, and I need 15 minutes to prepare for the meeting. Help me think through what to do first.”
Read the suggestion and check its assumptions. Does it leave enough time before the meeting? Does it account for the noon deadline? Have you included travel or preparation for the afternoon appointment?
Your estimates can be rough. The purpose is to make the work visible enough to decide where it belongs.
Choose what can wait before the day chooses for you
Suppose there is also a task to reorganize a folder, a call with no immediate deadline, and an idea you wanted to explore.
All three may deserve attention. Today’s morning might already be spoken for.
Try continuing with:
“The proposal and meeting preparation need to happen this morning. Help me identify what I could leave for later.”
Use the response to make your own choices. A task that looks flexible may involve a promise ChatGPT cannot see. A small item may be urgent for a reason you have not mentioned.
Choose what can wait, then make any changes deliberately. Asking for suggestions does not tell you whether your saved tasks have been changed, so check the result of any action you request.
Leave the conversation with a first step
By the end of this short exchange, our hypothetical morning has a starting point: prepare for the meeting and protect the time needed for the proposal. The less urgent work has an explicit decision attached to it.
Your day will look different. The useful questions stay simple:
- What is already committed?
- What needs attention first?
- What can wait?
If you are returning to unfinished work, a short restart note can help you remember exactly where to begin.
Before you open another tab or pick the easiest checkbox, try starting with a conversation.
